Need PickWindow help to switch between Word and Excel.

I've been working on an entry to be used when I finish up on a Word document that does some housekeeping and then pops over to my Excel log and inserts the number of characters in the file I just typed and a time stamp for my finish time a few cells over.

What I have so far is (after other stuff that all works fine):

{alt I}FN{down}{down}{down}{enter}{shift home}{ctrl X}{PickWindow}{wrap}{NoSpacing}

Everything up to {PickWindow} is inserting the NumChar field and copying it to the clipboard. The PickWindow function does not seem to do anything based on test runs. What I was hoping to do was get the PickWindow to pop up, type something like "E;" to take me to Excel, and then be off to the races inserting the character count and timestamp before "PickWindowing" back to Word for saving and closing.

Obviously, I'm doing something wrong. Could you guide me through the process of switching from Word to Excel inside an entry (preferably without stopping for any user input)? I can handle all the keyboarding native to Word and Excel, but the bridging process is where I am stuck.
