Space key blocked with shift key pressed

I'm a new user of Instant Text and like it. I've encountered an issue that is making it difficult to use in some transcriptions.

If the shift key is pressed down, then the space key is ignored. As an example, whilst holding the shift key down I wind up with:

MEDICALPROCEDURES instead of MEDICAL PROCEDURES

Is there any way to prevent that behaviour other than lift my finger off the shift key?

Automatic spacing and capitalization are both turned off.
